Following a number of queries from members we realise that not everyone is familiar with a Trackman golf simulator facility and we seek to address this now. What is it? Trackman is a technology for golfers of all skill levels that gives you feedback so you can find issues with your golf swing, quickly, and correct them. I’m no wiser. You basically can play golf indoors. An image of a golf hole or a practice range is projected on to a screen and you hit your ball at the image. How big is the screen? It will be over 9ft high and 12ft wide. You will be standing 15ft from the screen. Do you need special clubs? No. You use your own clubs. So, you need a special ball then? No, you use your own golf ball but we will insist that it is a new ball. Scuffed or ink marked balls will damage the screen which is costing €2,500. And no, you cannot lose the ball. Is there enough space to swing a golf club? More than enough, the room is 22ft wide, 26ft long and over 11ft high. Plenty of room for a fourball. It will also have an accessibility toilet. Can I play a golf course? Yes, there are 130+ courses available including St. Andrew’s, Valderrama, Adare Manor, Royal Troon, Lahinch and many more. You can play a course with your normal fourball. A round may take 2 hours. It is quicker than normal golf because you never have to look for your ball and you may decide generous gimmes before you start play. It is anticipated that bar facilities will be available. How accurate is it? Very, the Trackman 4 can pin point with fantastic precision, the landing position of a 300-yard drive or a 4-yard chip. Will the facility be open to the public? No. It is a members’ facility but you may invite guests. Anything else? Yes, you can get golf lessons in the facility and yes it will help you to improve faster by identifying any swing faults within a few shots. You can also be fitted for golf clubs, comparing different clubs for distance, accuracy and dispersion. It will measure your angle of attack, your swing plane in fact anything you need to know. How much will it cost? It will cost €40 per hour regardless of the number of players. Initially, this will be discounted by 25%. Can I get better value? Yes. The project is being funded through preselling hours in the facility. There are three tranches available, €250.00 buys you 10 hours i.e., €25 per hour, €500 buys you 25 hours i.e., €20 per hour and €1,000.00 buys you 55 hours i.e., €18.18 per hour. Individual hourly vouchers will be issued so you can get together with your fourball and obtain great value. Vouchers must be used within 2 years. Our preselling quota is almost reached and will be closed shortly, so if you are interested email [email protected] and we will contact you. We can take payment over the phone and issue you with a receipt. The 4-minute YouTube video below will give will give you an idea of what to expect.

If you have any queries please contact the office. All forthcoming AGM documentation will be available on the website under Club News and Members Area later in the week. Slow Play We are aware of issues about slow play and are discussing ways of addressing this issue, but in the meantime please be aware of your place on the course which is behind the players in front of you. Remember, a ball is deemed lost if it cannot be found within 3 minutes of searching. Tee Time Etiquette Please remember to remove your name from the timesheet at least 12 hours in advance of being unable to play. If you need to cancel at short notice please let the pro-shop know, so they can alert any opposition. It is unfair to other players on the line and sometimes leaves them without opposition to mark cards for the competition. Competitions Weekly Turkey competitions are still ongoing despite the damp weather, so keep playing for that turkey! Captains Dinner
Saturday 6th November see's our Captains' Vincent and Ann host the Annual Captains' Dinner. Thanks for all the support, we are now fully booked, and look forward to seeing you all there. Competitions We are fast approaching the end of another golfing year in Courtown Golf Club. Don't forget the 9- hole Turkey competitions may be played any day that suits you, as well as in club competition days. Full details available in the locker rooms. Cancelling competition times Now for a housekeeping issue. It has come to our attention that some members are cancelling their booked times on the timesheet at short notice, therefore, they are leaving their playing partners with no opposition and unable to play in the competition with no-one to mark their card. Out of courtesy to other golfers on the same time slot please contact the Pro Shop or your playing partners, if, in exceptional circumstances, you must cancel your game. It was agreed at an AGM some years ago that 24 hours’ notice should be given, where possible, to your playing partners, and in the absence of this notice disqualification from 2 eighteen holes competitions plus the entry fee for the competition missed should be paid. (Rule 24.4) AGM You will soon be receiving formal Notice of Ladies, Men’s, and Club AGM'S due to be held on Tuesday 30th November and Saturday 4th December respectively. We would encourage you to come along to the meetings and have a say in your Club! Bar and Restaurant Winter hours.
