The Course Guide
Although its boundaries come within 100 metres of the sea, Courtown is actually a parkland course.
It is surrounded on three sides by forestry and the course boasts hundreds of mature trees. In fact every fairway is lined to reward the accurate golfer and punish the wayward. The course is a matured par 71 almost 6000 metres in length and provides great variety.
The four par 3s are a feature, particularly the 18th where a water hazard and the threatening out of bounds on the left have to be negotiated. For the big hitters there are three par 5s, including the new dog-leg 9th hole, an imposing end to the front nine.
The remaining par 4s include the 4th, the signature hole, revered nationally and internationally. With its panoramic views of the south Irish Sea and the beautiful North Wexford coast it provides a delightful distraction to many a bad round.
The course itself has recently undergone some major design changes that have further enhanced the high standard on which Courtown prides itself. Furthermore Courtown Golf Club provides ancilliary golfing services such as the availabiltiy of golf trolleys and buggies, a practice area, practice putting greens, and ladies and mens locker rooms.
The Pro Shop located near the 1st tee box stocks a large variety of the top names in golf and is run by the resident I.G.P.A. professional.
In addition Courtown is serviced by an excellent clubhouse that houses the abovementioned locker rooms as well as the exceptional restaurant and bar facilities. From this luxurious comfort can be enjoyed a panoramic view of the course and the Irish Sea beyond.
We hope that you will enjoy your trip to Courtown!

hole 1 - High HopesEnjoy a gentle introduction on the easiest hole on the course. An accurate tee shot will set up a mid-iron approach to the first green with bunkers on the left and right.

hole 2 - Kavanaghs DriveAdmire the broad expanse of fairway from the elevated tee box. A well-struck drive may leave you in range for an attempt at the generous green in regulation.

hole 3 - One More ClubThe first of our par 3’s is an uphill approach shot with bunkers on the left and right. Take note of the name of the hole!

hole 4 - RadharcWhile you catch your breath, take in the magnificent views southwards to Cahore. Then brace yourself for a testing drive to an elusive fairway below. Miss left or right and quickly discover the hole belies its index.

hole 5 - Old Club HouseA gentle draw from this tee will be rewarded with a short iron approach shot to a tiered green. Otherwise, watch out for the receptive bunkers on the right which operate in cahoots with their colleagues in play to the right of the green.

hole 6 - The QuarryOut of bounds on the right hand side of the fairway always sits in the back of your mind with your tee shot.. fairway opens out on the right once you get to the top of the hill. Your approach shot into this 2 tiered green needs to be on the money with bunkers again in play on the left and right.

hole 7 - GraveyardA long par 4 for the gentlemen with the graveyard on the right out of bounds. Even with a straight drive, a long second shot is on the cards for most. There will be great satisfaction walking away from the 7th with a par!

hole 8 - Earls RestA long par three by any standards, if you drop short you’ll find the stepped green protected by bunkers on both sides. If you go too long…

hole 9 - Fishermans LaneA beautifully re-crafted par five, you’ll need to carefully consider your club selection here. Whether from the ladies or the gents tee box, take on the lateral water hazard at your peril. Once across, you decide if it is a long iron shot home (usually from a sloping fairway) or a lay-up! The three-tiered green is ably defended by water to the front and out of bounds to the back. The quintessential test of ‘course management’.

hole 10 - Marl HoleContinue your long-game examination on this testing par five. Trees to the left, a gently sloping fairway feeding errant tee shots into the trees on the right and a water hazard for good measure, you’ll need two good shots for the reward of arriving on the green in regulation here.

hole 11 - KennelsPrevailing winds will certainly confirm ‘most difficult hole’ status here. Beware the lateral water to the left and the green side bunkers.

hole 12 - The HollowsThe second of a majestic duo of par fives on the run home, enjoy the undulating roller coaster fairway with the stunning sea views. But concentrate! A left side setup might afford you a dry approach to the green, otherwise be prepared for an anxious arrival over a magnetic pond.

hole 13 - Around The BendPlay this hole a few times and you’ll know what we mean….it will drive you berserk. A sharp dogleg left, your drive will still leave you, most likely, with a long iron shot to an elevated green. A par is a very good score here!

hole 14 - The BowlA deceptively difficult par three., reach the dance-floor in one, or be prepared for a searching test of your short game.

hole 15 - Big TreeSee it, admire it, and now go over it! And leave a mid-iron shot to a saddle contoured green which spills balls left and right.

hole 16 - Lady's FieldCareful consideration of angle of tee shot is required here; out of bounds to the left, trees on the right and fairway bunkers lie in waiting on the bend. Risk and reward for taking on the corner, are you brave enough?

hole 17 - Carriage Drive
Hope you have some petrol left in the tank… a big drive here, will give you a chance to reach a well-protected green. A par here is a very good score.

hole 18 - The PondMake or break… wind, tee position and pin position will all affect the character of the challenge here. But the pond never changes! Take a deep breath before your tee shot and please don’t hit our swans!
