Local Rules as of March 2022
Relief from Pathways
On pathways you may take a free drop within one club length from the nearest point of relief – not nearer the hole.
(You can also have the option of playing from the pathways)
Bridges on the 9th
The two bridges on the 9th hole on either side of the water hazard (Penalty Area) in the middle of the fairway are to be treated as pathways and relief may be taken under the local rule ‘Relief from Pathways’ (as above). This also includes the bridge on the right side of the approach to the 9th green.
Distance Measuring Devices
Under decision 14-3/0.5, the Committee of Courtown Golf Club allows the use of distance measuring devices. This applies to devices that measure distance only, not any other conditions that might affect a player’s play (e.g., wind or gradient). If your device measures conditions other than distance, and it is used in competition, you will be disqualified whether it is used or not.
Plugged Ball (Embedded Ball) Rule 16.3
In accordance with Appendix 1, Part B 3.a of the Rules of Golf as follows:
‘’Through the green, a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground other than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball, when dropped, must first strike a part of the course through the green.’’
Extra Hole
If the extra hole on the green interferes with your stance or the line of your putt, you may take relief.
Out of Bounds
Any open drainage works on the course should be treated as abnormal ground conditions and relief taken. (Nearest point of relief and drop within one club length not nearer the hole)
Penalty Area (Water Hazards)
Defined by yellow stakes – see Rule 17
Penalty Area (Lateral Water Hazards)
Defined by red stakes – see Rule 17
Singles Competition Entries
All players entering Singles Competitions must return their scorecard and enter their score into the computer. Players failing to comply with this rule will have their Handicap suspended for the next two Singles Competitions.
