There is still plenty of golf to be played over the Autumn/Winter months. The Winter League Fourball  kindly sponsored by E.B.S. Colman Doyle Finance Ltd. has started along with the Ladies Winter League which began last weekend. All information is posted on the locker room notice boards.
There are weekly turkey prizes to be played for, and Ladies have their 9-hole running turkey  competition. Again, all details on the notice boards.
Trackman
The popular Trackman League started on Monday 20th October. You can play some great courses  from across the world and be guaranteed fine weather with no rain or wind. There are six weeks of  competitions (9-hole Stableford) with the worthy winners of the ladies and men's Order of Merit to be announced after week 6.  There are weekly pro v golf balls awarded for nearest the pin and longest drives.  A new league will start in the new year for those who missed out this season.
Captains’ Dinner
Our Annual Captains Dinner will be held on Saturday 1st November. Prosecco reception at 7:00 p.m.  followed by a 3-course meal in The Green Restaurant. Cost is €30 p.p. You may book by contacting  the Restaurant or Office. Come along and support your captains for what promises to be a fun filled  night.
Short Game Area
Work on the short game area has stopped until next Spring. The greens have been seeded, and the chipping area will be modelled and seeded as soon as the weather permits, next April or May.  The driving bays will be located at the back of the bungalow and work will commence as soon as is practical, in the coming weeks.
Trolley Shed
The Trolley shed is now open. There are still a small few lockers available and about 30 trolley spaces. A combined trolley and locker space will cost €100 per year (€20 trolley, €80 locker).
Lockers are only available to members who are renting a trolley space.  It is envisaged that we will purchase new lockers for the middle locker room next year. If you are interested in acquiring a trolley space, or a combined trolley and locker space please contact the office.
Chains for your trolley space will be provided by the club, but for extra security you are advised to purchase a small  padlock for your trolley space and a small padlock for your locker.
Recent Club Raffle Winners
The Club raffle winners were drawn on Monday 27th October and the lucky winner of a new trolley and bag was Donal Sheehan, Gorey.
2nd Prize    Fergus Rapple                       3rd prize   Keith O’Connell

Club Volunteers
We have a fantastic volunteer program in Courtown Golf Club.  In recognition of our volunteer's contribution to the club we will have an end of year get together comprising of a few drinks and lite bites on Sunday 23rd November at 4:00p.m. Volunteers will be contacted directly.
Rules Night
A rules night will be held on Tuesday 11th November at 6:30 p.m. facilitated by Lucy Doyle from Golf Ireland.  This is open to all members, and we would encourage your attendance to improve your knowledge of the rules of golf.
Pace of play

Rule of Golf 18.2
Ball Lost or Out of Bounds: Stroke-and-Distance Relief Must Be Taken
18.2a When Ball Is Lost or Out of Bound
(1) When Ball Is Lost. A ball is lost if not found in three minutes after the player or their caddie begins to  search for it. If a ball is found in that time but it is uncertain whether it is the player’s ball:
● The player must promptly attempt to identify the ball (see
● Rule 7.2) and is allowed a reasonable time to do so, even if that happens after the three-minute
search time has ended.
● This includes a reasonable time to get to the ball if the player is not where the ball is found.
If the player does not identify their ball in that reasonable time, the ball is lost.
(2) When Ball Is Out of Bounds. A ball at rest is out of bounds only when all of it is outside the boundary  edge of the course. A ball is in bounds when any part of the ball:
● Lies on or touches the ground or anything else (such as any natural or artificial object) inside the  boundary edge, or
● Is above the boundary edge or any other part of the course.
A player may stand out of bounds to play a ball on the course.

18.2b
What to Do When Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds
If a ball is lost or out of bounds, the player must take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty  stroke and playing the original ball or another ball from where the previous stroke was made (see   Rule 14.6).                                                                                                                                               Exception – Player May Substitute Another Ball under Other Rule When It Is Known or Virtually certain what happened to ball: Instead of taking stroke-and-distance relief, the player may substitute another ball as allowed under a Rule that applies when their ball has not been found and it is known or
virtually certain that the ball:
● Came to rest on the course and was moved by an outside influence (see
● Rule 9.6) or played as a wrong ball by another player (see
● Rule 6.3c(2)),
● Came to rest on the course in or on a movable obstruction (see
● Rule 15.2b) or an abnormal course condition (see   Rule 16.1e),
● Is in a penalty area (see   Rule 17.1c),  or
● Was deliberately deflected or stopped by any person (see  Rule 11.2c).
Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Rule 18.2: General Penalty under Rule 14.7a.
Q. May I remove an out of bounds stake?
A.  No, objects marking course boundaries may not be moved.
